Financial Economics Doctorate Programme
Aim of the Program

The aim of the Financial Economy Doctorate Program is to raise young scientists and researchers who:

• have a good command of mathematical research methods and financial econometrics,
• can follow theoretical literature,
• can analyse and interpret development in national and international financial systems and interactions between real and financial sectors,
• can offer scientific solutions which increase efficiency in the financial management of real sector companies and every kind of financial institution.

In our country there is a great need for finance academicians who have the above-mentioned qualities. While in western countries, a significant number of economists with Nobel Prizes have been awarded this prize because of their contributions to finance theory, in Turkey, it is still accounting-finance departments that dominate. However, efficient financial management requires a powerful economy, mathematical modelling with statistical and economical infrastructure much more than accounting. For this reason Doğuş University opened the department of Finance and Economy for the first time in Turkey and right after that it established the Financial Economics MA programme. The need for lecturers who have this formation will increase in future.

In addition, the requirement for specialists is also increasing in the field of application. In the past students who chose to stay for a doctorate degree wanted to continue their education at universities, whereas now, there is an increase in the number of researchers with doctorate degrees who work in public and private sectors. This is a natural result of the information era.
