He was born in 1950 in Of district of Trabzon. In 1974, he graduated from the Department of Sociology at Istanbul University. In 1979, he completed his doctoral dissertation at Atatürk University, Faculty of Business Administration, entitled 'The Place of Naima in Turkish Sociology and the Reasons of the Collapse of the Ottoman Empire'. He worked as a faculty member at Gazi University, Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences and as a director at Bolu Vocational School. He became associate professor in 1993. In 1995, he was transferred to Marmara University Faculty of Theology, while he was working at Bolu Izzet Baysal University Duzce Vocational School. In 1999 he was promoted to professor.
