Goal 1 : No Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

Goal 1 – No Poverty aims to end poverty in all its forms by 2030, ensuring social protection and basic services for all.

  • Community Outreach: Doğuş University addresses poverty through social responsibility projects. The “Doğuştan Gönüllüler” (Born Volunteers) student club organizes donation drives for underprivileged communities – such as, collecting school supplies and aid for rural village schools. Such initiatives help break the cycle of poverty by supporting children’s education and basic needs in low-income areas.

  • Educational Access: As an educational institution, DOU provides extensive scholarships and financial aid, enabling students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to attend university. This commitment to inclusive education helps reduce economic inequalities and lift families out of poverty through opportunity.

  • Partnerships in Relief: The university community often mobilizes in solidarity during crises. Students and staff have volunteered and raised funds for disaster relief (e.g. earthquake aid campaigns), ensuring vulnerable populations receive food, clothing, and shelter. These efforts align with SDG 1’s call to build resilience among the poor by mitigating the impact of economic and environmental shocks.

  • Addressing Poverty through Academic Engagement: The National Sociology Conference at DOU
The National Sociology Conference, hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, provided a platform for critical reflection on poverty, inequality, and social justice. By bringing together scholars, students, and practitioners from across the country, the conference emphasized the role of sociological research in understanding the root causes of poverty and developing evidence-based policy solutions.
