Goal 4 : Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Goal 4 – Quality Education calls for ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. As an academic institution, Doğuş University’s core mission aligns closely with this goal.

  • Academic Excellence: Doğuş University provides high-caliber education across diverse fields with accredited programs and modern curricula. Small class sizes, qualified faculties, and up-to-date laboratories ensure students receive quality instruction. The university continually updates programs to meet global standards, fostering critical thinking and creativity in its graduates.

  • Inclusivity and Scholarships: The university is committed to inclusive education. Robust scholarship programs make DOU accessible to students from various socio-economic backgrounds, ensuring talent is nurtured regardless of financial means. Support services (like tutoring, mentoring, and a Disabled Student Support Unit, Lets: Learning Enhancement Center) help all learners, including those with disabilities, thrive academically. This reflects SDG 4’s emphasis on equal access for the vulnerable.

  • Lifelong Learning: Through its Continuing Education Center (DOUSEM), Doğuş offers lifelong learning opportunities to the broader community. Certificate courses, workshops, and public seminars allow individuals of all ages to gain new skills – from language classes to digital literacy and professional development. These programs promote continuous learning beyond formal degrees.

  • Support for Teacher Professional Development: DOU and the Ümraniye Directorate of National Education have signed a cooperation protocol to promote lifelong learning opportunities. Within the scope of this partnership, the university’s Foreign Languages Unit delivered online General English courses for local teachers. This initiative aims to enhance teachers’ language competencies while contributing to broader public access to continuous education and professional development.

  • Community Education Projects: Doğuş University students and staff actively engage in educational outreach. The Born Volunteers Club’s “Support the Village School” project is a prime example: students collected books, supplies, and donations to improve rural school conditions. By helping resource-poor schools, the university community directly uplifts the quality of education for children outside its campuses.

  • Internationalization: Doğuş participates in Erasmus+ exchange programs and international collaborations, exposing students to global perspectives. The University’s partnerships enable student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and multicultural campus events. Such international engagement enriches the learning environment and prepares students to be global citizens, embodying the lifelong learning and cultural understanding aspects of SDG 4.

  • Research and Projects Highlights:

    • Educational Measurement Project: TÜBİTAK 1001 Project – Development of a Psychological Intelligence Measurement Tool (2017–2021) – Led by Prof. Sirel Karakaş. This high-impact project (₺6.47M budget) created a new standardized tool for assessing cognitive abilities. Its outputs help educators better evaluate and support student learning, directly furthering SDG 4’s goal of improving education quality.

    • Learning Environment Research: Doğuş University’s faculty have studied factors in academic success and inclusion. For instance, internal research on student engagement and support services found that mentoring and tutoring programs significantly boost retention of disadvantaged students. These findings guide DOU’s scholarship and support policies (as noted in SDG 4 narrative), ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
