Goal 3 : Good Health and Well-Being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being

Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being calls for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. Doğuş University advances this goal through health education, research, and community wellness initiatives.

  • Health Sciences Education: The university’s School of Health Sciences (e.g. Nursing, Physiotherapy) produces skilled healthcare professionals. Modern laboratories and training clinics provide practical experience, while programs emphasize public health, preventive care, and holistic well-being. Graduates contribute to improving healthcare quality in society, aligning with SDG 3’s targets on medical workforce and healthcare access.

  • Campus Health Programs: Doğuş University invests in well-being on campus with free counseling services, regular health screenings, and fitness facilities for students and staff. Workshops on mental health, stress management, and nutrition promote a healthy lifestyle. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the university organized vaccination drives and awareness seminars, protecting community health in line with Goal 3.

  • Student Clubs – Health & Awareness: Active student clubs focus on health issues. The Genç Yeşilay Club (Green Crescent youth) raises awareness about substance abuse prevention and mental health, hosting expert talks on addiction. The Doğuştan Sağlıkçılar Club (Health Professionals Club) leads first-aid training and blood donation campaigns in partnership with the Red Crescent, directly contributing to community well-being.

  • Social Impact Initiatives: Notably, the LÖSEV Fayda Club (Leukemia Children’s Foundation club) at DOU organizes support events for children with cancer. In May 2024, they held a charity project and a conference to benefit pediatric leukemia patients. Such activities not only aid vulnerable patients (supporting SDG 3’s target on combating disease) but also educate the public on health issues.

  • Research and Projects Highlights:
    • TÜBİTAK Biomedical Project: A TÜBİTAK-funded research project (2017–2019) led by Doğuş University scientists developed new photosensitizer drugs for cancer treatment. By investigating novel phthalocyanine compounds for photodynamic therapy, the project aimed to improve cancer care outcomes. This aligns with SDG 3’s target on fighting disease through R&D, and was a multi-institution effort involving DOU and partners.
    • Selected Sample Publications:
      • Public Health Research: “Seasonal resistance status of two main malaria vectors…populations from Turkey” (2025) – R.Y. Manap, N. Pınar, E. Gunenc, et al. This study monitored malaria-carrying mosquitoes in Turkey, finding patterns of insecticide resistance. Its findings inform disease control strategies, helping protect community health in line with SDG 3.
      • Health Education Study: “Effectiveness and Acceptability of a Sexual Health Education Program for Muslim Countries: An Intervention Study” (2025) – Ö. Karatana, A. Beyhan, A. Ergün. Conducted by Doğuş University nursing faculty, this study tested a culturally tailored sexual health program. Results showed improved knowledge and attitudes, demonstrating how targeted education can advance well-being for diverse populations (SDG 3).
